MCCAIN ACCEPTS REPUBLICAN PARTY NOMINATION

NONE TO GO!

By ERSNEWS

Sept 5th, 2008 9:00AM PST)

Senator John McCain was the man of hour in Minnesota on Thursday night.  The former Navy combat pilot and Vietnam War Hero/POW had come a long way.  McCain, if he wins, will become the oldest man ever elected President in American history.  McCain, who was all but washed up and given up for dead by the all knowing political pundits after his defeat to George Bush in 2000 for the Republican presidential nomination, was now standing as the Republican Party’s landslide nominee to become the 44th President of the United States.

McCain’s acceptance speech adopted a more “town hall” approach.  His well known low-key style did little to dampen a roaring convention crowd and primetime national TV audience.  He echoed his opponent Barack Obama’s call for “Change” in Washington, but with an entirely different tact and meaning.  “Change is coming” he told the crowd, but he instead took a jab at his own party telling the crowd, "We were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us”, referring to the 12 years that his fellow Republicans controlled Congress until being voted out in 2006.

As the crowd’s roar built to a final fever pitch he told them “"Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight with me. Fight for what's right for our country"

Now with both the Republican and Democratic Party political conventions finally over, the “fight to the finish” in November is fully underway.

John McCain’s newly chosen Vice Presidential running mate, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin took center stage last night at the Republican National Convention.  Her rousing speech before delegates was carried live on all of the national television networks. It was her first major test on the national political stage.

Palin, who was plucked from relative obscurity by McCain has been the subject of intense media interest this past week.  After the speech she was joined on stage by her family and McCain.

Next up John McCain will accept the Republican nomination, give his speech acceptance speech and we can get on with the campaign which thankfully will end this coming November when the next President is elected!

OBAMA ACCEPTS DEMOCRATIC PARTY NOMINATION

ONE TO GO

By ERSNEWS

It’s all over in Denver but the shouting of the cable TV pundits and the sound of media types wishing the weeklong party would never end. Now they’re all packing up and heading to Minneapolis-St. Paul on Monday for the opening of the Republican National Convention.

In his acceptance speech before an adoring crowd of over 80,000 party faithful Barack Obama told the country his personal story and set out his vision and campaign for his run for the White House.

Obama also set his sights on his opponent John McCain and his connections to President Bush saying "Sen. McCain likes to talk about judgment," he said, "but really, what does it say about your judgment when you think George Bush was right more than 90 percent of the time?"  Obama highlighted the differences between the two men and how they would lead the United States for the next four years.

McCain will get his chance to tell the American people what he thinks next week in Minnesota.

If you believed the hype, he was shaping up to be their worst nightmare, but in the end he turned out to be their secret weapon.  Bill Clinton made a thunderous return to the national spotlight at the Democratic National Convention in Denver Wednesday night and gave an unequivocal endorsement of Barack Obama as president fit to lead the United States in the 21st Century.

“Barack Obama will lead us away from division and fear of the last eight years and lead us back to unity and hope,” Clinton said in the climax of a spirited address that electrified the 20,000 delegates crammed inside Denver’s Pepsi Center.

They leapt to their feet at the first sight of Clinton, and stayed there for minutes. “Sit down,” said the beaming 42nd president of the United States, telling them they had “important work to do.”

Bill Clinton’s arrival was without a doubt the most memorable moment of the DNC so far. He said he loved it, and so did everyone in the room.

Before he was done, Clinton managed to take on all the doubters who believed he and his wife, Senator Hillary Clinton, were trying to undermine Democratic Party unity at the four-day convention here and Obama's coronation.

Clinton has been accused of giving lukewarm support for an Obama presidency, casting doubt on the ability of the 47-year-old Illinois to be a competent commander-in-chief. The Clinton’s foot dragging on Obama has been used by the campaign of Republican John McCain to attack Obama’s ability to protect America’s national security.  Clinton recalled how he too was assailed as “too young and too inexperienced to be commander-in-chief. Sound familiar? It didn’t work in 1992 because we were on the right side of history. And it won’t work in 2008 because Barack Obama is on the right side of history.”

And for good measure Clinton added that Obama’s life “is a 21sst Century incarnation of the American dream.”Clinton’s glowing words won over perhaps his toughest audience – Obama’s wife Michelle. At first she sat poker faced, but by the end of Clinton’s fiery address, she was on her feet, applauding with a wide smile.  Michelle Obama was said to be deeply offended by the harsh words that came from the Clintons during the hard fought primary campaign.

It was hard to imagine that Bill Clinton could have done more to make the Obamas – or the Democrats for that matter – put to rest any doubts about his party loyalty.  And just for good measure, the seasoned Arkansas campaigner did Obama one more favor: he boiled down the essence of the campaign down to a potentially powerful bumper sticker.

Clinton said the election boiled down to “two great questions.  They were: “How to rebuild the American Dream and how to restore America’s leadership in the world.”  Now it’s all up to Obama as he takes to the 50-yard line Thursday of Invesco Field for his convention closing speech.
