FOLLOW-UP AUDIO EXCLUSIVE: Listen to the Judge Larry Fidler’s comments from the bench last Wednesday (4/25/07) just prior to the murder trial of famed record producer Phil Spector getting underway.
Apparently Judge Larry Fidler doesn't like ERSNews.com. The honorable Judge saw fit to tell us how to do journalism and made the assumption that "we didn't think" and based our reporting on this story on some need for what Judge Fidler called "street cred" (whatever that is). Last week, ERSNews.com broke the story that Adam Gorfain, a senior Producer for NBC's Dateline, was less than forthcoming about his background and experience on his jury questionnaire. A fact the judge seemed to overlook and sidestep when going out of his way to slam ERSNews.com for identifying NBC Producer Gorfain. We here at ERSNews.com don't do criminal law, we defer to the judge and lawyers on that. And no offense Judge, but you're not a journalist! We suggest the honorable Judge Fidler might want to do his own "research" on the "street creds" of the journalists who report, write, edit and produce ERSNews.com (The Enterprise Report). We have more than enough "street creds" to fill a docket of the honorable Judge Fidler. Judge Fidler even went as far to call us a "blog". We've got nothing against 'blogs" (we like them). Although we appreciate the attention heaped on us by Judge Fidler, we're actually a web based investigative news media outlet. We're no "media experts" here at ERSNews, but we'd hazard a guess that the reason why no other mainstream media outlets have bothered to disclose the juror's name and his background (what we call the story!) is that disclosing the truth publicly about this juror or any other might get them kicked out of Judge Fidler's courtroom. The name of the game in celebrity trials for mainstream media is access and keeping the gavel to gavel coverage coming, it sells newspapers and generates ratings. As noted in our original story Gorfain, once the case in concluded will be free to talk about his experience on the jury and I’m sure he won't be giving his “exclusive story” to ABC or CBS News or anyone else. To our readers and viewers: we're glad we published the Gorfain story and have had no second thoughts about it. We would do so again in a flash. The Gorfain piece speaks for itself but we want to insure Judge Fidler and our readers that making the Judge unhappy is not what we're all about.
